On 29th October 2024 Gamification Global team had a pleasure to host a Twine workshop led by Tom Cruz on our Discord.
One of our core missions is to highlight successes of members of our community, such as recognition of Tom’s text-adventure called CALLSIGN at the last LXD Con’s Game Jam.
What is CALLSIGN?
We were extremely happy to see, that our idea resonated with you. Tom’s workshop was limited to 20 spaces to avoid technical hiccups, and we were proud to see registrations were close to capacity. Thank you for trusting us! To avoid disappointments in the future, subscribe to our event calendar and always be the first to know about what’s coming.
It's time to begin the workshop
The event was hosted by Ike, who briefly introduced Gamification Global team and Tom. We were happy to see turnout from 5 different countries on 3 continents. Global reach, just like we like it. But the energy in the room was clear. Everyone was waiting to see what can be achieved with Twine.
Tom started by giving everyone a little insight in their experience and background. Then they were kind enough to lead the group through the CALLSIGN game showing the intricacies of the system and exploring what we will all do if the world will end as a result on ‘the global stores of coffee were obliterated as a direct result of the nuclear war brought on by the great cookie plague’. I bet you didn’t see this coming.
We surely did not.
After showing what can be done, Tom proceeded to show how to achieve it.
Starting from a blank page, and suggestions from the crowd, Tom created a multistaged, training adventure for up-and-coming new employees. In less than an hour. Sure, this time the employees were ghosts and training was on scaring tactics, but it doesn’t take a big leap of imagination to see how useful this tool can be with a bit more time a little serious subject.
Twine Workshop with Tom Cruz's reception
Tom really showed their workshopping skills. Audience engagement was constant. Attendees offered outstanding ideas and asked specific, useful questions. Tom addressed every comment, incorporate best suggestions and answered every single comment. Class act.
We finished with a round of, much deserved, the best applause GIFs on the internet for Tom. Ike also announced a competition for the best story told using Twine. Those who will take on the challenge have to post their game in #your-serious-games discord channel, and next week the team will announce who will win the prize.
The Gamification Global take
From the perspective of Gamification Global, the Twine Workshop with Tom Cruz was an amazing success. Attendees clearly got an insightful introduction to the platform, Tom did an amazing job, and we couldn’t be more proud to host this event on our Discord. The next one is coming soon, and you really don’t want to miss it!
